Steven Szalaj
Artistic Director
Upon
his recent retirement Mr. Szalaj completed a 34-year career teaching
vocal music in the public school system, with the last 27 years at
Richard F. Bernotas School (formerly North Middle School) in Crystal
Lake. Mr. Szalaj is an adjunct instructor of voice at McHenry County
College, and an adjunct instructor in music education at Judson
University in Elgin. He holds a B.M.E. from Millikin University, a
master’s degree in Choral Conducting from Roosevelt University and
has completed extensive graduate work with the VoiceCare Network.
Steve was a select member of the Festival Chorus of the Robert Shaw
Choral Institute at Carnegie Hall in January 1995. Steve is
currently serving as the Community Choir Repertoire and Standards
Chair for the Central Division of the American Choral Directors
Association (which includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio).
Voices in Harmony is exceedingly proud to recognize his outstanding
service as Artistic Director since its inception in 1987.
Randall Casey
Accompanist
A
native of Texas, Randall Casey has been Director of Music at Holy
Cross Lutheran Church in Libertyville since December of 1991, having
been active in two other North Shore churches since 1976. He holds a
Bachelor of Music in Organ from Centenary College of Louisiana,
Shreveport, LA, and a Master’s degree in Organ Performance from the
University of Michigan. Randall is very active as an accompanist in
the northern suburbs of Chicago.
He is
staff accompanist at Lake Forest High School and directs the
Waukegan Concert Chorus.
